New evidence suggests that chamomile tea may contribute to a longer life. A 2015 study published in The Gerontologist concluded that chamomile tea may contribute to a longer life, at least for some segments of the population. The study tracked the effects of chamomile tea on mortality in a group of Mexican Americans aged 65 and older. The study found that consuming chamomile tea reduced the mortality rate of woman by 29 percent, but did not effect the mortality rate for men. More research is needed to determine whether chamomile tea increases the life expectancy of all segments of the population or whether is only Mexican American women who live longer when they drink chamomile tea.
Aids in Digestion
Chamomile tea is used in herbal medicine to treat a variety of digestive ailments from upset stomachs and cramps to irritable bowel syndrome and diarrhea. There is little research to support these claims, but one study did confirm that chamomile tea in conjunction with peppermint relieves indigestion. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) , chamomile tea helps relax muscle contractions in the smooth muscles of the intestines, but more research is needed to confirm its effectiveness in treating digestive disorders.
Reduces Anxiety and Insomnia
Chamomile tea has long had the reputation of reducing anxiety and stress and promoting healthful sleep. It appears these benefits may be supported by science, as at least one study has confirmed that chamomile tea reduces anxiety and causes sleepiness, says UMMC. Drinking a small amount of chamomile tea may relax you and reduce your perception of stress and anxiety, while a heavier dose will promote restful sleep.
Soothes the Mouth and Throat
Chamomile tea is believed to soothe sore throats and reduce mouth inflammation from gingivitis. In animal studies, chamomile has been shown to reduce inflammation and speed wound healing. Drinking a warm cup of chamomile tea before bed, or in the morning before you begin your day, may bring relief from cold symptoms or dry mouth as it soothes away inflammation.

Yes. Chamomile tea is safe to consume, but there are some people who should not drink chamomile tea. Do not drink chamomile tea without consulting your doctor if any of the following apply to you.
